Salted Date Black Garlic Smoothie

If you want to whip up a smoothie that’s as delicious as it is nutrient-packed, look no further! We’ve combined dates, banana, cacao powder and … wait for it … black garlic (!) for a blend that rivals anything you’d find at your favorite smoothie bar.

Our family loves smoothies and we have them almost daily. This one has been on repeat lately and we don’t see that changing anytime soon. Black garlic lends a sultry, complex flavor to the mix and also offers a hefty dose of immune-boosting power. We love mixing black garlic with sweet foods and hope you give it a try! INGREDIENTS:

  • 3-4 cloves peeled black garlic

  • 3 pitted medjool dates

  • 2 frozen bananas, broken into chunks

  • 1 tablespoon cacao or cocoa powder

  • pinch sea salt

  • 1 1/2 cups milk (we prefer either organic soy milk or whole milk for the protein content)

  • handful of ice

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blitz until smooth. Taste and adjust to your preference. You can always add another date for more sweetness or a bit more salt, for example. Add a touch more milk if you like a thinner consistency.

NOTES

If you love smoothies and want to make them regularly, we suggest keeping a stash of ripe, peeled bananas in your freezer at all times. They create a creamy, nutritious, and sweet base for so many delicious smoothies.

If you do not have a high speed blender such as a Vitamix or Blendtec, soak your dates in warm water for a while to soften them up and make them easier to thoroughly blend.
